OK so there are some clear similiarites between this mask and Blithe mask I tried months ago. Read about the Blithe Mask here. Now I want to find another Sea Cucumber mask. I want to compare as many as I can. Well two is a start. Want to talk about the mask?

What is it?

According to Memebox: Give your skin a refreshing treat by replenishing moisture and collagen production with Tosowoong’s Refresh Sea Cucumber Essence Mask! This skin quencher is a highly-concentrated essence mask infused with natural ingredients like sea cucumber extract, evening primrose extract, niacinamide and adenosine. This efficient blend of ingredients helps nourish the skin from within by increasing collagen production and replenishing lost moisture. Have this essence mask as a quick night treat for your skin and experience moist and soft skin the very next morning!

This all sounds pretty good to me. I’m still skeptical about a sheet mask increasing my collagen production but maybe the theory is that skin that is cared for stays in better shape longer?  I’m sold at niacinamide because my skin likes that stuff. I’m told evening primrose extract is great for hormonal acne but I’m pretty sure it’s usually taken orally. I know some people use it topically. Perhaps I chose the right timing to use this mask?  I also don’t actually know that sea cucumber does anything but I’m still interested in the prospect.

If you are interested in a more in depth post about Sea Cucumbers in skincare one of my favorite fellow bloggers actually wrote a post about eating them for skin health. Check out Yue Rain if you want more of the history and poke around her blog a bit if you have time. She’s really awesome and diverse about her content. She’s also much more motivated than I am… there are recipes.

img_0632From Memebox: Water, Glycerin, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Niacinamide, Sea Cucumber Extract (1,000 ppm), Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Allantoin, Glycereth-26, Panthenol, Adenosine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Trehalose, Xanthan Gum, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Tromethamine , Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, 1,2-Hexanediol, propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance

I added the mask to COSDNA!  Carbomer is the only red flag listed but avoid if  you are sensitive to anything on the list.

How to use it?

OK if you’ve used a sheet mask before skip this part but… if you haven’t welcome to my blog and please let me know how your first time goes.

Anyway you apply to mask to freshly cleansed skin. I like to squeeze out extra essence and pat it into my face before applying the mask. Then you unfold and leave the mask on for 10-20 minutes according to the package. I leave mine on till they dry.

How did it go?

The mask lasted me nearly an hour. I’m pleased. The essence was clear and medium texture. I know that’s a weird description. The essence wasn’t dripping but it wasn’t exactly a gel either. The scent was mild a “refreshing” type scent but it faded quickly while the mask itself stayed damp. This pleased me. I wasn’t looking for aromatherapy right then and Tosowoong does make some things super fragranced. The mask sheet is decent quality. See the above photo for the fit. It’s thin but not so much that it tears easily. The cling was great so I had no issues with slipping. I didn’t have to cut off excess nose flap or anything to make it comfortable. The sheet isn’t pillowy soft but it wasn’t rough either.

The mask did a great job calming my redness and hydrating my face. I wouldn’t use it as my sole moisture source especially on a dry day but it did it’s job. People didn’t start checking my ID The next day so perhaps long term use is required for the anti aging? This mask is a little pricey for me to think of using daily. Still it was a solid masking experience. 3.5/5

1- I want both my money and the time I spent using this product back. It should never be used and if I encounter another in my collection it goes to the trash bin.

2- The product is nothing special but not horrible. I would use it again or give it away if I got it as a free sample.

3-The product is nice enough but I would not repurchase because I have many better options. May be better suited for others

4-I really like this and would likely repurchase if I do not find something better.

5-I love this product and it has become a staple in my collection.

So now you know what the numbers mean!
