Disclosure: This mask was not provided for review. I paid for it, waited for it to come in the mail, and saved it for a special day because it is fancy!
What is it?
The Smim Fermentation Hydrogel Mask CERAMIDE version is meant to plump and hydrate skin
Check out the simple packaging.
What’s in it?
Here is what the package says:
The Face Shop SMIM Fermentation Hydro Gel Mask – Ceramide ingredients: Water, butylene glycol, glycerin, niacinamide, ceratonia siliqua gum, chondrus crispus powder, polyisobutene, polyacrylate-13, polysorbate 20, panthenol, cellulose gum, phenoxyethanol, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, 1,2-hexanediol, allantoin, ceramide 3 (1,000 PPM), agar, ethylhexylglycerin, adenosine, disodium EDTA, fragrance, potassium hydroxide.
I checked out what COSDNA had to say and zero red flags were listed for this mask. I love ceramides in my products and glycerin is simple but fantastic. Note that creamed 3 is all the way at the end but hey niacinamide is #4 and that means skin evening and brightening properties.
Fiddy Snails reviewed this mask and when I read her review I knew I should save this for a special occasion. You can read her much more professional review here.
How to use it?
This is a two piece gel mask. The packaging has a little pictorial showing you how to put it on but I like to put the bottom on first because I find that two piece masks often slide around and in theory the top piece bolds the bottom in place. Just leave the mask on for around 30 minutes or until it starts to feel dry. No need to wash this mask off.
Rants and Ramblings
So here I was all prepared to use this mask. I couldn’t wait. I just knew this mask was going to change my life and improve my whole day when I put it on early in the morning before… OK technically before bed because I had a nocturnal event. This happens to me sometimes. I stay awake so long that sleep occurs during the day. But anyway on to the mask. I had prepped my skin with layers of Shara Shara Berry Bomb and COSRX COSRX Honey Propolis Ampule because I was going for maximum moisture here. I had stars in my eyes and then I put the mask on… Want to see? Yeah I already put it on Instagram so I won’t be shy.
What exactly were they thinking with that nose flap? I was so annoyed. I have been told on more than one occasion that I have a “plate face” so maybe this wouldn’t be a problem for people with a more pronounced nose? After I took the picture I trimmed the mask and if I decide to use the other mask I will probably trim it in advance. The lower half also slid around despite my cool trick. If I use the second mask I may just have to see if putting it on their way changes anything.
Would I buy it again?
NO! I’m sorry but the nose flap kills this mask for me. Sure I can cut the mask but I’m only willing to that for masks that are either very cheap or provide AMAZING results like the one that took my sunburned face from lobster to pale pink in 30 minutes (my photos are blurry but I may include them in a review anyway because seriously that mask was amazing.) I give this product 3/5 on my rating scale anyway thought because the mask did preform well. Probably better suited for people with more patience.
Where can you buy it?
If you happen to want to try out this mask despite what I think it is available lots of places.
I saw this mask in a local The Face Shop Store for $9 I am very glad I did not spend that much.
I got mine from Jolse during a sale and they currently have it available for $5.98. Wait for a sale… or maybe I’ll throw my other one into the giveaway I’m planning.
This mask is also available many other places but because I hate it I am not hunting down more links at the moment.
